As the new head of performance management for AET-Tankers, Yoosuf Moiz is responsible for ensuring quality and delivery of all of AET’s shore-based staff’s personal development needs, talent management, succession planning and employee relations. For his first project, Moiz will focus on the delivery of AET’s various training and development initiatives as one of his main priorities. Moiz says working directly with people and seeing how they can improve, both personally and professionally, is a big draw for him as it leverages his previous HR experience. To successfully attract and retain talent, Moiz says the CEO’s view of the value and contribution of HR is key. “It must be in tandem with the head of HR’s belief in his ability to add value and contribute to the business.”

Sumitomo Electric Wintec has appointed Ng Soh Tik as its new HR manager. Ng’s key responsibilities include managing the company’s human resources and industrial relations with the trade union. He is also tasked to retain talent and “remove deadwood”. Ng feels HR has an active voice in the company as Sumitomo’s top management values HR as the business partner. He cites the company’s willingness to introduce control measures such as whistleblowing to help ensure compliance and to keep up with international HR practices. Ng believes employees must be involved in all aspects of the business to feel wanted and utilised as they are the key to the company’s growth. He says HR must communicate the company’s vision and bridge the employees’ roles accordingly for effective results.

Christina Moh, the new HR director for Elsevier Asia Pacific, will be responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of HR across the region as well as delivering HR solutions to meet the needs of the various business units. After more than 15 years of HR experience with Oracle, Microsoft and Cable &Wireless, Moh feels Elsevier represents an exciting change for her. Besides partnering with APAC business leaders to make Elsevier “a great place to do great work”, Moh says one of her key HR initiatives is managing, developing and expanding Elsevier’s talent pool. She believes HR is instrumental in helping the business optimise their human capital. To achieve this, Moh says, “Offer diverse learning and development opportunities for employees to stretch their capabilities and realise their fullest potential during their careers with us.”

The National Library Board (NLB) has appointed Teo Wee Seng as its director of people management and development. Teo brings a wealth of HR experience having worked at a consulting company for many years previously. In his new role, Teo will spearhead NLB’s drive to maximise the full potential of its human capital and talent development. Teo plans to develop an employee-oriented organisation and align all staff to the overall mission of providing a trusted, accessible, and globally connected library and information service to promote a knowledgeable and engaged society. He says, “HR will build a supportive culture where staff feels engaged in their work and also achieve a high level of fulfilment both in their work achievements and personal life.”
