Out of a myriad of programmes that claim to foster team spirit in corporate groups by involving physical activity and intellectual games, MOSAICS-hip’s concept of mosaic art making as a team-building activity stands out as a novelty. Vanessa Tan finds out how this programme might interest corporates looking into new ideas for team-building activities.
For companies that are looking for a new way to build team spirit, putting together small ceramic tiles may not seem like much. But as art is both interpretive and subjective, the activities in the workshops conducted by MOSAICS-hip focuses on engaging teams through creative thinking rather than being competition-driven, as making mosaic in a group involves decision making, problem solving, and tasks distribution.
Workshops can be designed accordingly to meet the objectives of each organisation. "If corporates request for an evening of social interaction and casual mingling, I would design shorter workshops and work with simpler pieces using pre-determined patterns and colours. However, if corporates are aiming to instill team spirit and engage colleagues across regions and departments more deeply, I would design longer workshops requiring more involvements by the teams in areas of decision-making and cooperation," Sarah Khoo, founder of MOSAICS-hip, says.
Either way, Khoo adds that the therapeutic nature of mosaic art promises to be fun-filled and recreational. On top of that, the finished product can be a tangible testament of the team's effort that also doubles as an ornamental fixture for the office.
Prices for team building projects start from S$40 per person, subject to duration and group size, and individual projects for staff recreation start from S$20 per project.
