For many employees, going out with colleagues after work means heading to the nearest watering hole to get a pint of beer or two. A survey by CareerBuilder reveals the various reasons why people go drinking with their colleagues and the mishaps that happen when employees get drunk.

21% say drinking sessions are good for networking, while 85% say such sessions did not help them get closer to someone higher up or climb up the corporate ladder.

16% of employees have bad-mouthed a co-worker or member of management during a drinking session.

8% of respondents confess to drinking too much and acting unprofessionally, while 4% admitto singing karaoke – badly.

15% of workers say they attend drinking sessions to catch up on the latest office gossip, while 13% only go because they feel obliged to.
