Singapore – Eighty percent of Friendster’s new hires will be in Asia, confirms the marketing and PR director for one of the largest social networking site in the world.

With 36 million unique users coming from Asia Pacific, Friendster plans to drive further growth by introducing more offices and hiring over three-quarters of their new team in the region. Jeff Roberto, marketing and PR director of Friendster says, “As we move forward, we are going to have more employees in Asia than in the US.”

There are currently 65 Friendster employees worldwide, with almost half stationed in the Manila office. While it’s possible executive staff in the US may move to Asia, Roberto says the headquarters will remain in the US for the time being.

Roberto says Friendster has been moving rapidly in Asia with consistent recruitment every six months, and they are currently hiring three marketing managers for the Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia markets. “After we build up the team here, there will be expansion in other countries in the region. Given how fast we are growing throughout Asia, I say it will be sooner than that [five years].”

The social network is also recruiting strictly via online means only. Roberto says, “In a way, I need them to be web savvy, understand our product and the space [used].” Other than the job postings and classifieds sections on the website in each country, Roberto says LinkedIn, a social network for professionals, was used for recruiting in Singapore. An email blast was also sent out to Roberto’s entire network. He says, “Today there are resources to find talent based on certain criteria you have and finding people through people through your email.”

Roberto also reveals that over 150 resumes have been received since the recruitment ads were posted last week.
