Singapore – Despite having to recruit 3,000 temp workers for the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, which begins in less than four months, Kelly Services is confident it is up to the task.

Singapore GP has recently appointed Kelly Services as its HR solutions partner for the upcoming FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, and has tasked the recruitment specialist to provide 3,000 temporary staff for the event. These positions include suite ambassadors, retail crew, ticket inspectors, traffic marshals, buggy drivers, porters and ushers.

However, Dhirendra Shantilal, Kelly Services senior vice president for Asia Pacific, does not foresee any recruiting challenges at this moment. He said prior experience with the 2006 International Monetary Fund/World Bank event will put Kelly Services in good stead. Although Shantilal declined to reveal the recruitment deadline, the Grand Prix race date is fixed on 28 September 2008.

Other than utilising the database, online and print platforms, Kelly Services plans to recruit the manpower by leveraging on school partnerships. “Kelly Services has a very good working relationship with Temasek Polytechnic. We will be working in partnership with the institution to tap on the student pool to assist in this project,” Shantilal said.

However, the recruitment drive is not solely aimed at students as Shantilal says all who are keen to be part of the event are welcome to register, even foreigners. Age will also not be a factor as Kelly Services is looking at able-bodied applicants in a wide age range across the different positions, Shantilal said. “What is important are the attributes of the people that we hire.”

While experience in major events or hospitality and retail industries and multilingual skills are a plus, Shantilal says applicants who are cheerful and energetic are equally wanted.
