Singapore - Lanxess has adopted a "Bring Your Own Bag" campaign to encourage employees in becoming environmental stewarts.
The "Bring Your Own Bag" campaign enables staff to adopt a green lifestyle by using a reusable bag that has been issued to them. Additional bags are placed at the main doorways of the office in which employees can conveniently assess when they go shopping during lunch breaks or after work.
The campaign promotes employee engagement among staff in various ways. Employees are encouraged to wear green to work on World Environment Day and are also encouraged to sign their commitment to protect the environment on a pledge board which will be displayed in the offices.
Building up teamwork among staff is also accomplished through this green initiative. "Lanxess employees can serve as an effective support group in encouraging one another to be eco-friendly," says Ian Wood, managing director for Lanxess.
Furthermore, staff involvement in the campaign benefit the company in small ways as well. The company encourages staff to shut down the conditioner after 6pm and print both sides of papers to not only help the environment but to reduce the cost of expenditure as well.
"At Lanxess, we believe that it is important to empower our employees to become active agents of sustainable development," Alice Leong, Human Resources for Lanxess, told Human Resources.
About 2.5 billion plastic bags are consumed in Singapore each year.
