Singapore - Four Seasons Hotel has managed to reduce the time managers spend in the classroom through its online learning hub.

The new e-learning hub, EKZONE, aims to help strengthen the significance of lifelong learning for staff in the organisation. The new hub is outfitted with workstations for employees without internet access to use.

Through the web portal, EKSUITE, employees can take ownership of their own career progression acquiring knowledge in areas that best suits their interests and future aspirations at their own leisure.

Some of the courses and learning resources available include courses on conflict resolution, developing leadership and managing a team. Most of the courses are short interactive pieces which make learning fun and allow for better memory retention.

Celeste How, senior director of human resources of the Four Seasons Hotel told Human Resources Magazine that the "blended" training of breaking modules into interactive learning and classroom meeting works better for staff.

"For example, we have managed to cut down our 'Managing and Reviewing performance' course for managers from a previously 2-day session to a half-day class, with managers going over the course on-line prior to meeting in the classroom. So when they meet, it's really to share ideas and experiences, and this reinforces the learning process," How added.

EKZONE was established from a grant disbursed to the hotel by the Workforce Development Authority (WDA) as part of their CAN DO Scheme to promote training and learning in organisations.
