Singapore - Sun Mircosystems has confirmed that there are no retrenchment figures for the APAC region yet. This follows its headquarters' plans to cut jobs globally.

The story, which first ran in Computer World, said the IT company is taking steps to adjust its spending profile in order to position itself for continued profitability and improve overall financial performance.

Jane Rogers, senior communications manager for Sun Microsystems told Human Resources that the company is still in the midst of reducing its workforce by 1,500 to 2,500 employees globally, saving the company an estimated US$100 million to US$150 million.

"The company expects this will result in a more efficient coverage model, with resources aligned to growth opportunities, as well as more focused and effective demand creation," Rogers adds.

The company employs approximately 700 staff in Singapore.
