Painting staff green

Singapore – In an effort to promote environmental awareness, KPMG International and Royal Plaza on Scotts have rolled out schemes to instill green corporate behaviour in the workplace.

The two green campaigns are organised to promote staff to be energy efficient and nurture an appreciation for bio-diversity. This form of education generates and increases awareness towards the impact of global warming.

Royal Plaza on Scotts has its staff members from all departments to get involved in painting dustbins with environmentally friendly messages. This, the hotel says, would generate closer bond as it gives employees the opportunity to gather together to brainstorm for creative ideas.

Meanwhile, KPMG mapped out a series of activities that have been arranged to increase green awareness among the staff in the first week of April. They watched movies regarding climate change and participated in the collection of donated sports shoes. Staff was also included in bio-diversity talk and spent a day taking public transport.

"Employee participation is integral to this. Our employees have lived up to our KPMG way by giving creative suggestions and initiating personal projects in their own time. We see more staff, especially our senior associates, keeping us updated on volunteer missions undertaken personally overseas," says Lee Sze Yeng, partner for Corporate Citizenship at KPMG in Singapore.

Lee also notes that more employees are also demanding the firm to be environmentally friendly. "This campaign therefore serves to assure our staff that we take our commitment to reduce the carbon impact of individuals and of our firm as a whole seriously," she adds.

Royal Plaza on Scotts told Human Resources Magazine that employees would also feel like they are part of something bigger and thus increase job satisfaction among staff.
