Singapore – Companies are now opting to send industry specialists on short-term assignments instead of transferring employees on a permanent basis.

At the launch of Pan Pacific Service Suites, Gwee Lian Kheng, group president & CEO of UOL Group said that the inbound arrivals to Asia Pacific increased by 7.9% in 2007 reaching 361.7 million, and this number is expected to grow. Despite the growth, most of these professionals will be here for a shorter period.

Kevin Croley, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts explained the rise of short-term assignments, saying, “The need to send somebody on a permanent transfer has decreased, because they can send a specialist, especially in industries that employ a lot of consultants and industry specialists.”
