Petite surprise

What is it?

Apple continues to surprise us with its sleek nifty designs. This time it's the Mac mini. This 6.5 by 2-inch tall cookie-tin sized computer comes in 1.25GHz Power PC G4 processor and a 40-GB hard disk. A slightly more powerful version at 1.42GHz and 80GB is also available. A little silt at the front of the unit is where the combo-drive lies (DVD-ROM/ CD-RW). Users have the choice of upgrading it to a SuperDrive that can support DVD burning. The computers are priced at an affordable $928 and $1,088 respectively - great for curious PC users at an affordable price.

How does it work?

External peripherals like keyboard, mouse and monitor are not included so you'll need to provide your own. Round the back of the computer are several connectors for these and other external digital devices such as camera, printer and camcorder.

Drawbacks

The small size of the Mac mini makes it tough for the power supply to be integrated so the unit comes with an external power brick about a quarter the size of the computer. Also, external peripherals may clutter up your workspace.

Where to get one?
