South Koreans faking resumes to land jobs

South Korea - South Korea has been rocked by a series of scandals involving high-profile people admitting they have faked their resumes, one of whom includes a monk, the International Herald Tribune reported.

The nation has been credited as one where education qualifications are highly emphasised and job vacancies are handed out based on the quality of schools attended. Companies in South Korea rarely check on the authenticity of degrees, or make reference calls.

Many say that the desperation for jobs stems from the squeeze the nation is feeling as the economy is stagnating. "Graduates from first-tier schools landed top jobs and second-tier school graduates got the next best jobs and so on. But nowadays, there aren't many jobs, period," said Lim Min Wook, a manager at Saramin, one of the country’s leading recruiting companies.
