BIZARRE HR
Australia - Both male and female employees think women bosses are prone to severe mood swings, incapable of separating their personal life from work and happy to talk behind their staff's backs.
According to a survey of 3,000 employees by online recruitment firm www.UKJobs.net, 75% of male and 63% of female respondents say men make better bosses. Both genders agreed women bosses are a nightmare to work for, reported Herald Sun. Two-thirds of women preferred a male boss because it's easier to deal with a direct, to-the-point attitude while three quarters of men would rather work for a man than a woman. Respondents also said male bosses are less likely to have a hidden agenda, suffer mood swings or get involved in office politics.
Around 25% women say female bosses are more likely to backstab them and bring their personal lives into the office while a third said women in high-ranking positions often felt threatened by colleagues. Female bosses were also deemed to be too cliquey, too competitive and spent too much time worrying about appearances.
Four in ten respondents said men were more able to distance themselves from politics and bitching with 14% finding men more reasonable than women.
David Brown, spokesperson for the online recruiter, said, "This indicates that while women are more than capable of progressing to a management role, some lack some of the key skills required to be a good boss."
But Brown added, "No one is suggesting women aren't intelligent enough to be in senior positions, far from it, but perhaps some need to be more approachable and less competitive."
The study found that the average employee has had two female and three male bosses. A third of respondents have also quit their jobs because they didn't like their managers, who were also most likely female.
