BIZARRE HR
Malaysia - Two Malaysian brothers have accepted their employer's compensation of RM36,000 (S$15,538) after working their fingers to the bone at a factory for the last 15 years.
Simon, 30, and Radin Bangan, 31, accepted their employer's out of court settlement after working 12 hours daily for over a decade without pay. Malaysia's State Labour Department announced the closure of the case two days ago in a press statement and it was said to be "an amicable settlement", reported The Star.
The brothers from an Iban village in eastern Malaysia, Sarawak, claimed they were promised a monthly salary of RM2,000 (S$863) each for working at the bun making factory in Kuching but were never paid. After slogging for 15 years, they finally threatened to quit.
The Bangan brothers also reported five other workers, two Bidayuhs from Sarawak and three Chinese from Perak, who were held against their will to work at the factory.
Upon the conclusion of the case, the State Labour Department urged locals to seek consultation of its officers before taking up job offers to prevent falling for job shams.
