Who: Tan Eng Leong

Tan Eng Leong has been appointed as the new vice president of HR development in Dusit International. With more than 30 years’ experience in HR management, Tan will provide an added degree of leadership as well as developing strategies to raise the efficiency of the HR department in the company. Tan’s specialty is in strategic HR development and his organisation is expecting him to develop HR strategies that are in line with Dusit International’s expansion plans to manage employees effectively. Before Tan’s appointment, he was the group director of HR for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, where he was later promoted to the head of Shangri-La Academy.

Who: Janet Lee

From: Weatherford Asia Pacific

To: Changi Airport Group

Janet Lee recently assumed the senior HR managerial role at Changi Airport Group. Her key responsibilities are leading the compensation and payroll team through reviewing and implementing new compensation policies and ensuring relevance and competitiveness of HR policies. Lee will also review and enhance payroll operating procedures, as well as keeping the system up to date. Lee and her HR team are in the midst of preparing for the company’s annual merit increment and promotion exercise. She is working on the staff cost budget for the next fiscal year and the preparation and implementation of a new salary structure. Being a Singaporean, Lee has always been proud of her company’s achievement on the global platform and “it’s the desire to be part of the team” that motivated her to join the group.

Who: Vivien Wong

From: TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific

To: TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific

Starting in TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific as assistant regional HR manager three years ago, Vivien Wong has been promoted to assistant vice president of regional HR. She will be responsible for charting the HR strategies, projects and programmes that support the company’s growth across 11 countries in APAC. Developing a strong team of managers and leaders for the company, Wong’s upcoming HR projects scheduled for next year will be developing leaders, retaining critical employees and building an effective platform for succession planning. Wong values discussions with her team, firmly believing that “no matter how experienced one might be, there will always be blind spots not considered at times”. Likewise, Wong is a mentor to her colleagues. She believes in guiding and supporting them “where knowledge and direction may be needed at times”.

Who: Ethel Chan

From: Neptune Marine Oil & Gas

To: Frontier Drilling

As the newly appointed HR and admin manager of Frontier Drilling, Ethel Chan will be responsible for international recruitment, HR development, policies and procedures and administrative processes. She was attracted to her company because of the challenges and HR growth potential it can offer. Her self-professed strength is building “a seamless HR channeling and robust infrastructure which ensures efficiency, high productivity and fast turnaround time in daily operations”. Another HR function that excites Chan is the positioning and branding of HR. She said: “With combination of marketing and business skills, we package the employees and company as ‘product of choice’.”
