BIZARRE HR

US - With the jobless rate still hovering over various labour markets around the world, jobseekers may want to spend more time doing up their résumés, or else be stuck in unemployment.

According to Forbes' Ten Resumes Don'ts, employees' résumés will end up in the garbage bin if they are not constructed professionally. Here are some interesting no-nos to avoid in résumé writing.

  • Indecently dressed résumés photo - A hiring manager has reported to Forbes about receiving a photo of an inappropriately dressed candidate.
  • Unprofessional email addresses - Job applicants with emails that go by hotgirl123, for instance, will never make it to an interview.
  • Use of abbreviations - Words typed on résumés should preferably be fully spelt out instead of being shortened.
  • Rainbow-coloured papers - Résumés should be typed in plain text on white paper instead of being presented in fancy get-ups.
  • Spell check is mandatory - Accurate spelling is not an option if one is serious about the job.
