FLEXIBLE WORKING WORK-LIFE BALANCE
UK – More than half of UK employers approve of having a flexible working arrangement for their staff, much to their employees’ relief.
According to a research conducted with 680 workers and 420 employers by recruitment firm, Hays, 55% of employers generally approve of a flexible working system. Seven in 10 employers expect requests from employees for flexible working options to increase as well.
From the employees’ point of view, they are more than happy to have flexibility in their working options. More (85%) than eight in 10 of workers said they would be more likely to stay with their companies if they are granted flexible working options. Most (95%) of the employees said flexible working policies would improve work-life balance, while more than one in five see the policies as an “essential” in a job.
A flexible working arrangement can also potentially increase productivity levels in employees. Over half of the surveyed employees reported that working from home increases their efficiency. Charles Logan, director at Hays, said, “The research shows clear evidence that flexible working can improve productivity and work-balance, if employers can make the types most desired by staff available.”
More (35%) than three in 10 said they prefer having flexible working options as they can have more personal time, while 29% of them need the time for their children or elderly relatives.
It is important to keep employees engaged especially when pay freezes are still prevalent in companies in post-recession times, said Logan. “Offering simple flexible working options could make the difference between keeping or losing staff at a critical time, when the best employees are needed to drive recovery,” he said.
