BIZARRE HR

UK – British employees are twice as likely to take sick leave as opposed to their European peers.

The survey, founded by the consulting firm, Aon Consulting, found that British employees were twice as likely to apply for sick leave as compared to Germans and five times more likely as compared to Danes. British workers contribute to one quarter of the total amount of sick leave taken in the whole of Europe.

The research also found almost half (48%) of the 35 million British workers who have taken sick leave to be perfectly pink in health. More than one-fifth of them feigned illness to deal with a “personal issue”, which can range from staying at home to wait for repair men to nursing a broken heart.

Aon Consulting’s health chief Peter Abelskamp said, “Fictitious sick leave is costing the UK economy millions.”
