JOB SWITCH AUSTRALIAAustralia – Half of Australian employees polled are contemplating about switching jobs while a quarter of respondents are in the midst of doing so.
The HR consultancy firm Drake International, which conducted the survey, reported that workers are no longer feeling grateful for retaining their jobs during the recession. Instead, they have had enough of the poor treatment they had endured and are seeking greener pastures, according to a report by Sydney Morning Herald. ''For two years during the financial crisis, employees stayed put and suffered cuts in hours and conditions,'' said strategic manager of Drake International, David Edwards. "Not all of them will move, but right now none are expecting to stay."
In a separate survey, similar findings were reported by consultancy firm Hay Group, with a third of Australian employees polled intending to change jobs. ''The landscape has changed," said the head of insight at Hay Group, Sam Dawson. "Workers who have been grateful to hold on to employment are sticking their heads above the parapet and gauging what the recovery means for their career prospects.”
With the cost of replacing an employee ranging from 50% to 150% of the individual’s salary, Dawson said it might be too late for companies that failed to effectively deal with employees’ frustrations during the recession.
