JOB SATISFACTION

Global - Senior executives polled around the world are unhappy at work after having to lay off employees, following the recession.

A recent BlueSteps Executive Satisfaction survey shows 41% of 196 senior executives around the world are currently dissatisfied in their current jobs with 18% revealing that they are unhappy with the way their company handled the layoffs. More than half of respondents (55%) said they experienced reduced profits and have had to cut staff because of the recession while 20% said there have been "dramatic cuts in staffing levels" within their company.

Furthermore, 70% of senior executives polled are now actively looking for new career opportunities as the economy shows growth. Della Giles, director of online global database of senior executives BlueSteps, said employers will start seeing "an increase in executive mobility as these leaders move into more desirable positions".

Respondents were also asked to rank the top three criteria that would give them the most job satisfaction. Close to eight out of ten said a challenging role while 70% said adequate compensation was very important and 45% rated opportunity for career progression highly. Another critical aspect 37% of senior executives look for in job satisfaction is having a good work life balance. Only 15% of respondents viewed job security as a crucial factor.
