WORK LIFE BALANCE
Singapore – A cocktail-mixing competition was held for Singapore Marriott’s staff last Thursday as part of the hotel's 15th anniversary celebrations.
To provide an opportunity for better interaction among the employees of Marriott Hotel, a friendly competition was arranged to allow staff of various departments to participate during their working hours. Some of them joined out of unrealised passions, while others joined merely to have a little bit of fun.
Edwin Lee, whose day-job is a retail manager for the hotel's festive occasions and special promotions, was the winner of the competition who joined “for the fun of it”. As a pomegranate cocktail has yet to be launched in the market, Edwin decided to take the task upon himself and created the drink as his competing item.
A staff member from Marriott’s Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant, Jean Liew, was the first runner-up. She won with a coffee and liquor mixture with the number ‘15’ carefully sprinkled over the top of the drink with coffee powder.
The top three contestants received a cash prize of $200 each and would be entitled to royalties from the sale of their drinks, which would be sold in the hotel’s restaurants as special items up till June 2010.
As part of the committee which put together the competition, marketing communications manager Grace Yong, was ecstatic to see the positive attitudes of the contestants. She also felt that it was great to have the competition as part of the anniversary celebrations as it strengthened the bond between the organisation and its employees, creating for a greater camaraderie among colleagues.
