Julie Jarvis
VP of HR
DHL supply chain logistics Asia Pacific
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love being part of a management team and getting involved in different aspects of a busy international business, ensuring HR delivers value at all the touch points – whether it is customer facing or back office.
I love working in a change environment where integrated HR and organisational design solutions are needed to help build a sustainable and performing business.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I have been fortunate to have experienced a lot of different roles and geographies over the years and my approach has always been to take opportunities as they arise, rather than plan in advance.
As long as it is challenging, new and interesting and gives me a chance to make a difference.
I can’t work without a blackberry – it’s a love-hate relationship.
If you weren’t in HR, what would you be doing?
I have always liked the idea of travelling around the world and taking up a variety of jobs, and hopefully being able to give something back as well as having the wonderful opportunity of constantly learning new things, meeting new people and experiencing real life at the sharp end.
What is your proudest achievement?
I tend to be looking forward to my next achievement – but if I have to choose, it would be the opportunity to join the Asia Pacific Management Board of DHL Supply Chain in the current role, as well as gaining an MBA while working full-time. I also get a regular kick out of seeing individuals grow and develop after having had a part in their coaching.
if you could have only one personal item on the desk, what would it be?
A world map or even better a globe. Working in an international environment, it is interesting to see where people are, to better understand the distances and directions between places, and when I have had a tough day – I can always plan my next holiday.
