Love is in the office air
US - Could Cupid be lurking in the office? It may seem like it, as 37% of employees said they have dated someone from work at some time during their careers. This is likely to be caused by the longer working hours, which create a fertile environment for relationships to bloom, says Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder. “But it is the responsibility of individuals to understand company policy [on office romances] and make sure they adhere to it.”
30% of female respondents said they have dated someone who is of a higher rank in their organisation. Only 19% of men have done likewise.
8% say they are now working with a colleague whom they would like to date.
12% say sparks flew when they ran into their colleague outside of work. Other examples of budding romances include company holiday parties, business trips and working late in the office.
37% of 5200 workers surveyed have dated a colleague at one point in their careers.
