Global - Despite the recession, most oil and gas professionals are still well-paid compared to other industries.

In a recent survey by Hays's Oil & Gas Global Salary Guide, it found that oil and gas professionals are still a valuable commodity regardless of the crisis.

Matt Underhill, managing director of Hays Oil & Gas, explains: “With an average permanent staff salary of more than US$75,000 (S$105,054) equivalent globally, those in this industry are earning a premium compared to most other industries. There is however still a vast divide between high paying countries such as Australia and Canada and those paying the lowest salaries such as Kuwait and India.”

“For this reason it’s not hard to understand why easily transferrable skills continue to migrate around the world in search of higher returns. Oil and gas in the twenty first century is truly a global industry like no other and our survey very clearly confirms that this is indeed the case. Professionals in the industry are well paid, highly skilled and highly mobile,” continues Underhill.

The Oil & Gas Global Salary Guide is based on some 7,000 responses of workers across more than 30 countries and 20 discipline areas.

Other survey results includes:

· Average permanent salary is $75,000 (S$105,054).
· Average contract salary for local professionals is $95,000 (S$133,060) and $168,000 (S$235,314) for imported professionals.
· Two thirds of employers surveyed intend to award salary increases in the next 12 months.
