As the new manager of human resource policy and management for Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Jamie Leong’s role is identifying and attracting dynamic team players to be part of the company. Besides recruiting culturally suitable candidates for mid to senior level positions, Leong will lead and implement a new recruitment and talent management system in IDA. She said her technical background, extensive IT recruitment experience and passion for IT allows her to develop an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the business. Leong said working for IDA would be “killing two birds with one stone” as she would combine recruiting – her favourite HR function – and IT knowledge: “In this job I not only get to get to meet and interact with potential candidates everyday, we also discuss the ever changing vibrant infocomm ecosystem. There is nothing more satisfying than finding an excellent candidate for a role.”

Who: Robert Wilson

From: Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

To: Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore

Rob Wilson, the new director of human resources for Rasa Sentosa Resort, is responsible for the recruitment and redeployment of nearly 300 staff, locally and overseas, and training and employee relations. Besides planning for the resort’s revamp and its reopening in 10 months, Wilson is also designing key HR strategies around employee engagement and retention. He believes it is better business practice to retain staff through redeployment, “rather than retrench and having to rehire and retrain a brand-new team”. Wilson said redeploying a large group of employees to so many different destinations was “quite a juggling act” with plenty of co-ordination, co-operation and negotiation required. But attributing it to the company culture, Wilson said it was the “right thing to do” to repay employees’ years of work dedication with many having worked for the resort for up to 15 years. “This is their second home and we are truly humbled by their loyalty,” Wilson said. “Everyone, from the casual room attendants, waiters, kitchenhands and trainees, to our full-time managers and senior executives are being offered the opportunity to remain with us through redeployment.”
