HAYS CAREER PROGRESSION SURVEY
Global - Nearly half of job seekers say career progression is the most important consideration when looking for their next job.
In an online poll conducted by Hays, 43% out of 688 job seekers rated career progression to be the most important consideration when looking for a new job. This was ahead of long-term job security (36%) and salary (21%).
Chris Mead, general manager of Hays Singapore says that during the financial crisis, many job seekers chose to stay with their existing jobs than seek career advancement elsewhere. Other job seekers also accepted jobs that did not suit their long-term career goals but provided a stable income at the time.
And as the economy recovers, job seekers are now thinking of their long-term career progression once more, says Mead.
“But it’s not a surprise that job security still rates highly. Some jobseekers have told us it has been a challenge to regain their confidence and enter the job market again. For these candidates in particular, a role with a company that can provide long-term stability and security is very important," Mead added.
