Singapore – Companies tend to think that employee engagement is just about money and often fail to reward and recognise employees’ efforts. As a result, only 16% of the 25,000 Singaporean workers surveyed by Hay Group in October 2009 say they feel effective in the workplace. If left unaddressed, this may cause lead to a talent exodus as soon as the economy recovers.
18% of companies in Singapore are continuing their decision to freeze or cut salaries, down from 58% in March.
35% of workers in Singapore say they feel detached, and although they are physically at work, their hearts and minds are not. This is higher than 28% of UK employees.
20% of workers in Singapore say they feel ineffective at work.
29% of workers in Singapore feel frustrated in their jobs. While they like their work, they feel as though they have been set up to fail. In comparison, only 21% of employees in the UK feel the same way.
