Malaysia – To prevent spousal disputes over pensions after a worker passes away, the government has urged civil servants in polygamous marriages to declare the number of wives they have.
Speaking to The New Straits Times, a spokesperson for the Public Service Dispute said there have been cases of “long-standing conflicts” among widows whose husbands have passed away. It also said that it was forced to make the decision after appearances by second and third wives claiming pension of the deceased.
Spokesperson Hasniah Rashid said, “They are encouraged to make the declaration to their respective heads of department”
