JOB SATISFACTION  EMPLOYEE RETENTION ADDECO

US - Bosses take note. Three-quarters of workers say they are looking to vote with their feet and look for another job despite today's tightening labour market.

According to a survey conducted by Addeco Group, the survey results showed that an alarming 78% of American workers are not satisfied with their company's overall retention efforts, 77% are not satisfied with vision and strategy of the company and its leadership, and 76% are not satisfied about future career growth and prospects.

Other factors causing job dissatisfaction among employees include unsatisfactory retirement contributions (68%) and unsatisfactory compensation benefits (66%).

Also, strained relationships is another contributor to the employees' level of job satisfaction based on the survey findings.

"Managers should remember that career development is a mutual responsibility, particularly for companies looking to reduce an exodus of top talent," Bernadette Kenny, chief career officer of Addeco Group North America said.

"What workers are telling us is that even during a recession, just having a job does not equate to job satisfaction. Employees need to be conscious of the concerns their staff is managing through on a daily basis and proactively come up with the appropriate solutions to improve retention and reduce the current and future high cost of turnover," he explained.

Thus, the conclusion based on survey findings is that companies seeking to retain their employees when the recovery begins should start by addressing three key areas of dissatisfaction: compensation, career growth plans and retention efforts.

The American Workplace Insights Survey was conducted among 2,016 adults, out of whom 1,117 were employed at that time.
