MINISTRY OF MANPOWER SINGAPORE WORFORCE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY TRAINING
Singapore - As part of the government's push towards skills upgrading, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) will launch two Continuing Education and Training (CET) campuses by 2013.
Located in Paya Lebar Central and Jurong Lake District, these campuses will serve as a focal point for skills upgrading, indicating the country's commtment to CET and upgrading workers skills for employability.
These CETs will provide training for workers from rank-and-file to PMETs, as well as serve as an employment exchange for employers to meet their manpower needs. Employees can also seek out job opportunities. The centre will also provide career coaching, training, assessment and career services as well.
The two campuses are expected to cater to about 150,000 training places annually, and each campus will adopt sector themes for greater effectiveness. "For example, hospitality-related courses, such as tourism, hotel, food & beverage and retail, can be located at the same campus. Training related to social services such as healthcare, childcare, youth and student care and senior services can likewise be clustered together," the report states.
In addition, groups such as National Trades Union Congress, Employment and Employability Institute, the Singapore National Employers Federation and other private and public sector traininig providers will have their presence on campus as well.
“We hope that the CET campuses will be to working adults what our ITE, polytechnics and universities are to our young. They will provide vital resources for Singaporeans throughout their working life to retrain or upgrade their skills, and in the process boost their employability as the economy and labour market continually evolve,” says Chan Heng Kee, chief executive of WDA.
