India - Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) still plans to honour all the offer letters it made to campus recruits, even as the organisation's headcount fell in the first quarter ending June 30 due to a recruitment freeze.

According to Hindu Business Line, Ajoy Mukherjee, vice-president and head of global HR for TCS said that because the company's attrition rate has remained similar to previous quarters, the implemented hiring freeze has meant a headcount decline of 2,119 staff.

TCS reported an attrition of 11.5%, while only adding 2,828 employees during the quarter.

“Our attrition level has remained similar to what it was in the previous sequential quarter. However, since we have controlled gross additions, the overall headcount has come down,” Mukherjee said.

According to The Hindu, COO and executive director N. Chandrasekaran added that recruitment is only done based on business needs. "Recruitment will be skill-based. There are no salary hikes this year but we have just announced promotions."

However, the company said that the company is still on track for its hiring programme for this fiscal year.  “We intend to honour all offer letters made. The first batch will start joining us in the current quarter and this will continue in a staggered manner throughout the year,” said Mukherjee. TCS has made a total of 24,885 campus offers for the current fiscal year.
