JOB SATISFACTION TELECOMMUTING WORK-LIFE BALANCE WORK PRODUCTIVITY
US- Employees experience greater work-life flexibility, productivity and satisfaction from the ability to work remotely, says a recent Cisco study.
"In the age of a global market, time and distance separates people and workspaces. Cisco has long recognized that telecommuting and collaborative technologies are effective in breaking down separation barriers and enabling the transition to the borderless enterprise," says Rami Mazid, vice president of global client services and operations, Cisco.
The Teleworker Survey which polled almost 2,000 company employees across five regions was conducted to evaluate the social, economic and environmental impacts associated with telecommuting at Cisco. To date, the average Cisco employee now telecommutes two days per week, and 69% of surveyed employees cite higher productivity when working remotely. Seventy-five percent of respondents also say the timeliness of their work improved.
Sixty-seven percent of employees report an improvement in their overall work quality, reports Marketwire. By telecommuting, 83% of employees also say their ability to communicate and collaborate with co-workers was the same or even better compared to working on-site.
According to the respondents, 60% of the time saved by telecommuting is spent working, and 40% is spent on personal time. Hence, 80% of employees report an improved quality of life through telecommuting. In addition, telecommuting may also lead to a higher employee retention rate, with more than 91% of employees surveyed say telecommuting is somewhat or very important to their overall satisfaction.
Mazid also believes that as demonstrated through this study, "a properly executed program for telecommuting can be extremely effective at unlocking employee potential by increasing work-life balance, productivity and overall satisfaction".
