FEDEX  SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Singapore - A group of 22 FedEx employees recently spent a day cleaning up houses of the disabled and elderly in Telok Blangah all for a good cause.

Clifton Chua, newly appointed managing director of FedEx Express Singapore, joined his colleagues in Operation Homeworks, a project initiated by Habitat for Humanity Singapore (HFHS). Operation Homeworks was established in 2006 after HFHS discovered that many disabled and elderly people who lived alone faced difficulties in cleaning their houses, leading to health and safety issues.

Chua explains that FedEx aims to make a real difference to the communities by supporting the elderly and disabled, and improving their quality of life. "It is particularly meaningful for FedEx to assist the underprivileged elderly as this group tends to be particularly affected during difficult economic times," he adds.

Operation Homeworks is supported by a US$10,000 (S$14,485) grant from FedEx for HFHS. HFHS is a part of the international non-profit housing organisation, whose mission is to eliminate poverty housing worldwide by building simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner families and volunteers.

FedEx Express Singapore has supported HFHS for the past two years, where more than 120 employees have helped build ten houses for the underprivileged in Batam.
