Out of the closet

US – Sexual orientation is no longer an issue that puts lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees at a disadvantage. According to a recent study by Harris Interactive, more American companies are becoming less discriminative when it comes to selecting candidates for positions.

500 major companies surveyed say they offer protection for employees from discrimination in hiring and firing on the basis of sexual orientation.

75% of heterosexuals feel that gay and lesbian employees both should receive leave when they lose a spouse/partner or a partner’s close family member.

22% of LGBTs strongly or somewhat agree that it would be difficult to be open about their sexual orientation.

39% of LGBT adults feel at ease introducing their spouse, partner or significant other to their boss and management.
