Commuting to the office? Remember President Xi

Depending on their usual route, working hours, and mode of transportation, Hongkongers may find their commute to and from work slightly more difficult during the upcoming three days. With President Xi Jinping visiting the city from 29 June to 1 July to mark the 20th anniversary of the handover, traffic disruptions are expected.

In a statement released by the government on Tuesday, a police spokesperson revealed temporary road closure as well as traffic and pedestrian access diversion may occur. The traffic in Admiralty and Wan Chai North will be most impacted and motorists are "urged to avoid driving to the areas".

A number of roads will be closed from 8pm on 28 June to 12 noon on 1 July and additional road closures will take place between 29 June and 1 July. You can find details of the planned road closures here. Details on the potential closures and diversions due to a planned public meeting and procession on 1 July can be found here.

"Police are duty-bound to ensure the personal safety of President Xi during his visit to Hong Kong and the events that he will attend be conducted in a safe and orderly manner," the police spokesperson said.

He added that personal and motorcade escorts and security zones outside venues were also part of the planned security measures.
