Big Brother is well and truly here.
A new surveillance device manufactured by Hitachi is able to track almost every movement of an employee in the office.
The high-tech ID badge, called the Business Microscope, not only tracks employee movement, but can also keep a log of other staff members they have spoken to, for how long these conversations last, and how energetic the discussion was.
It also sends employers information about how long a staff member is out of their seat and in the bathroom, The Daily Mail reported.
According to Hitachi’s website, the device uses sensors which allow it to sync up with other Business Microscopes being used in the same office.
“Business Microscope is a system that uses sensor technology to measure and analyze inner company communication and activities,” the website states.
“Multiple sensor devices are placed inside a nameplate type sensor that is attached to company employees. When the name tag sensors come within a specified distance of each other, they recognize each other and record the face time, body and behavior rhythm data to a server.”
While many companies already use employee tracking or monitoring software, Hitachi said this device is aimed at helping to boost efficiency levels and help bosses respond to issues with employee they may otherwise have been unaware of.
