If you think you have the best or the worst job, here is a more objective way to make your case. Careercast has compiled a list of the best and worst jobs based on four criteria: environment, income, outlook, and stress.

The website went through 200 jobs and number one on the best-jobs list was the position of data scientist, which came in 6th place last year.

The high demand for data scientists comes from a growing emphasis on collecting and evaluating massive quantities of data. The opportunities in these fields are tremendous, as the IT sector, healthcare, business – and any sector that collects consumer information can put these numbers to use.

IT related positions continue to be hot jobs, with information security analyst, software engineer and computer systems analyst making the top 10 list.

As organisations continue to upgrade and expand their networks and more work is done on cloud systems, the need for security and IT support is ever increasing.

Among the worst jobs, newspaper reporter came in first for the third year in a row, while broadcasters also managed to take a top spot on this year’s list.

“The news business has changed drastically over the years, and not in a good way,” former broadcaster Ann Baldwin, president of Baldwin Media PR told Careercast. “When people ask me if I miss it, I tell them ‘I feel as if I jumped off of a sinking ship.'”

Employment in both those jobs is expected to decline by 9% in the coming years. Fire-fighters also made the top 10 list for having the worst working environment.
