6 signs your employees hate their jobs

Have you been noticing a drop in morale recently? Or perhaps dirty looks as you’re coming down the corridor? Here are six signs your employees not only hate their jobs, but might be ready to leave the company.

1. Showing up late and absenteeism
This is probably the easiest sign to look out for when determining if an employee is starting to lose interest in their job. If you’re noticing someone constantly coming in late, calling in sick or taking excessively long breaks, it might be time to have a chat and see what you can do to get them back on track.

2. Your office resembles the twilight zone
A boss knows he’s doing a good job with culture and engagement if laughter and conversation increases when he enters a room.

Employees who aren’t afraid to be themselves and have fun at work are more likely to be productive and engaged. If your office is quiet, dull and emits a negative vibe, then alarms should start going off.

3. They leave their dirty dishes in the pantry
You can pretty much be sure employees are no longer invested in their jobs when they leave their desks in a mess at the end of the day, can’t be bothered to wash up after themselves and have a complete disregard for their working space.

And clearly, they haven’t read this article on office germs.

4. They’re being more careless
Employees who don’t care how a company looks to customers and investors are a liability to the organisation.

If you’re realising employees are being reckless with their jobs, careless with their work or just can’t be bothered to do things right, it’s not only a sign they’re ready to leave, but also one that it might be time to let them go.

5. They’re job hunting
There are two types of employees when it comes to this – those that will try to hide their job searching activities and those who will do it out in the open.

Regardless of which one it is, if you find out an employee is putting themselves back on the job market, it calls for a conversation to find out why they’re planning a move and what you can do about it.

6. They’re bad-mouthing you
Disengaged employees are known to try and get their colleagues on their side and may do whatever it takes to build a gap between the workforce and management.

If you catch wind of employees behaving insubordinately, it’s important you step in quickly to avoid miscommunication and unnecessary discontentment among employees. After all, one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch.
